House of Tres Beau Chien, meaning House of “very beautiful dog” in the French Language, was established in 1985 by me, Valerie Brown, in Michigan when I was unmarried and under the name of Valerie Hawley. Way back then, I specialized in showing and breeding Chinese Shar Pei dogs which, at the time, were new to the United States and were being developed as a breed for AKC registration. The AKC Chinese Shar Pei registration goal was accomplished around 1990, and my first AKC champion Chinese Shar Pei was a dog I bred and show handled, CSPC and AKC Champion Tres Beau Cocolat Chip. I also co-owned, co-bred and show handled Doberman Pinschers for over 10 years and show handled many other breeds in the show ring as well. Please visit our dog show photo gallery (under the "SHOW PHOTOS" and various "DOG" buttons above) for pictures of some of the Tres Beau show dogs of our past and present.
Today, we show exhibit together as a family. We don't breed our dogs often, yet when we do, our primary goal is to produce show quality dogs for the AKC and UKC show arenas, and family companion pet dogs especially created for beauty, intelligence, performance, interaction with children, and overall great, healthy family pets. Conformation to the breed standard, excellent temperaments and genetic soundness are our biggest breeding goals. We have earned the honorary title of "AKC BREEDER OF MERIT". All of our adult dogs are tested for hereditary defects before used for breeding, including heart defects, eye defects, and patella luxation. We keep all show prospects for ourselves, and occasionally have puppies available as pets, most always because they are way too tiny to show!
We do show Whippets and Italian Greyhounds yet have no plans of ever breeding these breeds; we concentrate on show exhibiting them only.
We are proud supporters and members of The American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club of America, Southern California Chihuahua Club, American Italian Greyhound Club, Jack Russell Terrier Club of America and the Continental Kennel Club of America. Please feel free to browse about the dog sections of our website and feel free to contact us if you have questions or are interested in show handling or owning any of these exceptional breeds. We're always here to help.
